About the BuilD

This 2023 GR86 Premium was purchased new in December 2022 from Bakersfield Toyota for the sole purpose of creating a 'bang for the buck' build at the $35k entry point. It was developed with a clear objective: to enhance the platform’s performance while prioritizing mechanical longevity. Rather than chasing extreme modifications that compromise daily driveability, every upgrade was selected to address the platform's known limitations—specifically in thermal management, handling and braking consistency. The result is a highly balanced, "performance-focused" machine that remains as comfortable on the way to the car show as it is composed on a racing circuit.

About the Seller

David Killion is a professional driving instructor and has always built cars following a "bang-for-the-buck" engineering philosophy. With over 25 years of performance driving experience, spanning karts to sports cars, he brings a data-driven approach to his builds, ensuring every modification serves a functional purpose.

This GR86 was developed to be a reliable teaching tool and a capable canyon carver, reflecting a preference for high-quality components over superficial aesthetics.

As a driver, David is characterized by a conservative and disciplined style, typically operating at 7/10ths to set a safe, consistent example for his students. The car has primarily been used for lead-follow pacing and student demo rides, which prioritized mechanical reliability and predictability over raw lap times. Because his primary goal is always to ensure the vehicle is ready for the drive home after an event, the car has never been off-track, never spun, and has been maintained with a level of care that exceeds standard factory requirements.
